What an iconic view! Behind us is of course the giant pictue of Chairman Mao. Right above his picture in the doorway of the pagoda is where Mao declared communism for China in 1949 - changing the course of history.
TianAnMen Square is arguable the frontier of the Chinese ancient emperor thrones- the gateway to the Forbidden City (now known as The Palace Museum). I am a native Chinese citizen living abroad in the UK, it is suprising how many times I and other Chinese friends say that on both the news channels and websites (especially tourism) that they misspell Chinese city names and words. Examples include: Correct was is unbracketed and incorrect is bracketed.
Tian'AnMen (not TienEnMen or TianAnMen) Sichuan (not Szechuan) Beijing (not Peking because Peking was the ancient shorthand name for the city BeiPing before it was named as Beijing-this was during MaoZeDong's time as leader). MaoZeDong (not MaoTseTung unless you are from Hong Kong and are Cantonese since Cantonese and Mandarin have big differences- Cantonese is more linked to Vietnamese language in some sense). LinZhi (not NyinChi ot NyinQi because in Chinese we write in special symbols which are pronounced using PinYin and Zh, Ch, Qi are pronounced differently and sound different in Mandarin Chinese)
There are so much tourism places in China such as the famous JiuzhaiGou Valley National Park in Sichuan where a lot of people go as their honeymoon destination, however it is China's most difficult to access tourism cites because it is located in the heart of one of Sichuan's tallest mountain that form the Sichuan plateau. My relatives did go and the path was reportedly very steep and roads were very narrow- many traffic incidents have occurred on those path. Hence why I plan to fly to Chengdu and then get a taxi to XianChi hotel, which is right at the foot of the mountain path. Other than that, JiuZhaiGou has China's most beautiful landscapes, lakes and waterfalls.
A lot of people seem to like to go to Lhasa, KunMing and Ürümqi (the North-West Capital of XinJiang province- the Muslim Chinese province). I would be scared to go to those places if I had heart or health problems because Lha, KunMing and Ürümqi are cities that are over 100m above see level and might suffer altitude sickness.
Otherwise, I would suggest Shanghai (China;s largest city), QinDao in ShanDong, Haikou or SanYa on Hainan Dao (Hainan Island), Hong Kong, ShenYang, Dalian and Harbin up in the North East.
I would rate China as having the top airlines in terms of air safety and the training because especially Air China, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Hainan Airlines fly so smoothly from take-off to landing without a touch of turbulence whatever the size of the plane and weather.
China Airlines and Air China are not the same thing. China Airlines is the flag carrier airliner of Taiwan and Air China is the flag carrier airliner for Mainland/People's Republic of China.
China has quite a lot of slums and orphanages. However, good news is that the Chinese president XiJinPing announced that he will radicalize and reform the poor regions in China especially in farmland countrysides and slum regions; so that they are more richer and that the people can get a higher income on a daily basis so that China can become a 1st World country instead of a 2nd World country though it is economically developed- 2nd largest economy in the world.
The most shocking thing about China is the rudeness of spitting, pushing and barging on public transport from buses to subway metrolinks. Last time I went on a Subway metro train, people pushed in front of me and I just pulled them back behind me and shouted at them. They draw lines on the floor adjacent to the safety door to show where you should enter and where passengers leave. My children could certainly not do this even though they grew up in China with grandparents. Nowadays, its the young adults and youths in China that don't have a good habit with health, cleanliness and caring for others.
